About the work

Empower Global Tech AI Pvt. Ltd. is the engine behind LeadingIndia.ai, one of India's largest AI skilling initiatives, trusted by 1.03M+ learners and 1.1K+ academic institutions. We are building a dedicated AI media wing from the ground up. The goal is to create a credible, authoritative, India-focused AI media platform covering academic research, AI product updates, deep-tech startups, policy, tools, podcasts, lab tours, and career-relevant AI trends. We are working with a pod of 4-5 journalism and engineering interns who are analytical and curious, but still early in their editorial journey. We now need a sharp Managing Editor / Copy Chief who can manage this review pipeline, mentor them, improve their work, protect editorial quality, and act as the final gatekeeper before publication.

Responsibilities
  1. Act as the final editorial gatekeeper: Review, sharply edit, and polish articles written by interns before publication. Remove generic AI-sounding writing, weak claims, lazy framing, and unsupported statements.
  2. Protect the editorial voice: Ensure every article has a strong human voice, clear structure, useful context, and a tone that is credible enough for faculty and industry readers, while remaining simple enough for engineering students and early-career professionals.
  3. Fact-check AI claims: Verify claims related to AI models, research papers, benchmarks, tools, startups, policy updates, and product announcements using primary or credible sources.
  4. Apply a responsible AI usage policy: AI tools may be used for research support, structuring, and editing assistance, but final editorial judgment, verification, and published language must remain human-led.
  5. Strengthen the India angle: Guide interns to explain why a global AI development matters for Indian students, colleges, professors, startups, employers, and policy stakeholders.
  6. Manage publishing rhythm: Maintain the editorial calendar, review the daily article pipeline, and ensure weekly publishing targets are met without compromising quality.
  7. Own review throughput: Plan for a pipeline where 4-5 interns may each submit one article every two days. The editor should be able to review, improve, or send back drafts quickly enough to support roughly 12-18 reviewed drafts/articles per week, with publication cleared only when quality is met.
  8. Build the weekly AI newsletter: Finalize a curated weekly AI newsletter that explains the most important developments clearly and usefully for the LeadingIndia.ai audience.
  9. Mentor junior writers: Give practical feedback on headlines, introductions, analogies, sourcing, structure, readability, and responsible use of AI tools in writing.
Skills
Strong editing and copy-editing ability Excellent written English and headline judgment Experience with technology, science, research, startup, or policy content Practical understanding of AI, LLMs, generative AI, agentic AI, RAG, research papers, and technology trends Fact-checking, source verification, and citation discipline Ability to manage remote interns and maintain publishing deadlines Comfort with Google Docs, Sheets, Notion, newsletters, and LinkedIn content workflows
Who can apply
  1. Tech-literate editor: You do not need to write code, but you should understand AI, LLMs, agentic AI, RAG, benchmarks, datasets, research papers, and product updates well enough to question claims, verify sources, and guide interns responsibly.
  2. Sharp red pen: You have a proven ability to edit technical or research-heavy content and make it clear, punchy, accurate, and readable for a broad professional audience.
  3. Process manager: You can manage a remote team of interns, track deadlines, maintain publishing discipline, and follow up firmly without creating confusion.
  4. Quality-first mindset: You care about credibility. You should be uncomfortable publishing content that sounds impressive but is not properly sourced or clearly explained.
  5. Mentor, not just editor: You should be able to teach young writers how to improve, not merely rewrite their work silently.
Performance Expectation
  1. A credible AI media property connected to one of India's largest AI skilling ecosystems
  2. A practical editorial process for interns, contributors, newsletters, and future podcasts or video formats
  3. A content quality standard that avoids AI slop, hype, hallucinations, and shallow rewriting
  4. A repeatable system for covering global AI developments with an India-focused lens
  5. A young editorial team that can learn to research, write, verify, and publish responsibly
Other requirements
  1. Prior experience as an editor, copy chief, newsletter editor, desk editor, content lead, or senior technology writer
  2. Portfolio of edited or written work in technology, startups, AI, education, research, or business media
  3. Experience mentoring interns, junior writers, freelancers, or student contributors
  4. Understanding of Indian higher education, engineering students, skilling, AI careers, or the startup ecosystem
  5. Experience building editorial calendars, newsletter formats, style guides, or contributor review systems

Compensation And Incentives
  1. This is a freelance / consulting role, not a full-time employment position. Compensation is outcome-driven and linked to editorial ownership, review throughput, and publishing quality rather than hours logged. The total monthly budget is up to ₹35,000 pm including performance-linked bonus
  2. Fixed base retainer: For daily intern management, editorial review, mentorship, coordination, and quality control.
  3. Performance bonus: A variable payout unlocked by consistently meeting agreed weekly review and publishing targets, such as 12-18 reviewed articles per week, quality feedback to interns, and one curated weekly AI newsletter.
  4. Target-driven clarity: Final targets will be agreed before onboarding so expectations are clear, measurable, and linked to both quality and output.
  5. Value expectation: This role is expected to create visible value by improving intern output, reducing founder review load, and increasing the number of reliable, publishable AI articles produced each week.
Selection Process
  1. Step 1: Resume and portfolio review
  2. Step 2: Edit test for shortlisted candidates, using a flawed AI-generated technical article that must be fact-checked and improved
  3. Step 3: Video interview with the founders focused on editorial judgment, AI literacy, mentoring style, and execution discipline
  4. Step 4: Final selection and compensation discussion
